#Office365Challenge – SharePoint Custom Send To Locations allow users to make a copy of the document in another library. “By using the Send To command, you can copy files from the library in which they were created to another library. When a file is copied in this way, the copy maintains a relationship with its source file, and you can choose to update this copy with any changes that are made to the source file. Additionally, if the copy and its source file share common columns or fields, these columns or fields are also updated when the copy is updated.”

Description: Configuring a SharePoint Custom Send To Locations

Let me give you an example of when you’d use this: You have 10 different team sites for 10 different departments. They each have their own libraries for their working documents and drafts of articles. You’ve built an Articles library on the top level Intranet for Published Articles. Now you can configure each of the team sites’ libraries to have a custom send to location which points to that library.

Configure the library

Go to the Library Tab (1), Library Settings (2):
Send To 2

Click on Advanced Settings:

Send To 1

Enter the URL as well as a short name for the location, Save your changes:
Send To 3

To use this functionality, select the document (1), click on the Files Tab (2), then on Send To (3), in the dropdown you will see the name (4) you configured.
Send To 4

SharePoint will now confirm the Destination as well as the update settings:
Send To 5

Just another great thing SharePoint can do for you!

Overview of my challenge: As an absolute lover of all things Microsoft, I’ve decided to undertake the challenge, of writing a blog every single day, for the next 365 days. Crazy, I know. And I’ll try my best, but if I cannot find something good to say about Office 365 and the Tools it includes for 365 days, I’m changing my profession. So let’s write this epic tale of “Around the Office in 365 Days”. My ode to Microsoft Office 365.

Keep in mind that these tips and tricks do not only apply to Office 365 – but where applicable, to the overall Microsoft Office Suite and SharePoint.
