#Office365Challenge – Creating an Announcement List in SharePoint. So why would you create an Announcement list in SharePoint if people don’t navigate there and they insist on getting emails? Cause it’s worth it!! Take time, sneak the change in. In the beginning, mail the link to the announcement, then start adding things to your site that makes them go there, and eventually, they’ll check the site daily and see your announcements.

Description: Creating an Announcement List in SharePoint

“A list of news items, statuses and other short bits of information.”

To create your Announcement List, click on the settings wheel > Add an app. Search for Announcement or simply click on the icon. I do not create the Announcement List with the name (My Team’s Announcements), I use Acronyms. This keeps the URL short and clean as spaces are replaced with %20. I then rename the application afterwards

When created, navigate to the app, go to the List Tab (1) > List Settings (2):
Discuss1

In your settings page, go to List name, description and navigation and rename the app. Navigate back to your app by clicking on the name.

To add a new announcement click on + new announcement. The following fields needs to be completed: Title, Body and Expires.
The Body field is multiple lines of text and rich text – which means you can add formatting, tables and pictures.
Announcement1

This is what the announcement will look like – the title which is clickable to open the announcement. If you add this web part on the main landing page – you can set it to only show items which have not expired:

There you go!! Tomorrow we’ll look at Picture Libraries.

Overview of my challenge: As an absolute lover of all things Microsoft, I’ve decided to undertake the challenge, of writing a blog every single day, for the next 365 days. Crazy, I know. And I’ll try my best, but if I cannot find something good to say about Office 365 and the Tools it includes for 365 days, I’m changing my profession. So let’s write this epic tale of “Around the Office in 365 Days”. My ode to Microsoft Office 365.

Keep in mind that these tips and tricks do not only apply to Office 365 – but where applicable, to the overall Microsoft Office Suite and SharePoint.
