#Microsoft365 – #MSIgnite supported my feeling – I still consider “Microsoft Teams” the gateway drug to consumption of the greater Office 365 apps and services. Of course I mean this in a good way – the best way, as Microsoft Teams is better than sliced bread – and it’s here to stay. Yay!!

What is it?
For those who don’t know yet, Microsoft Teams is a Microsoft App, launched globally on the 14th of March 2017. Office 365 Chat-based workspace is what you’ll find when you search for it. I remember sitting in sessions at the MVP Summit in Seattle (Nov. 2016) thinking what now? When should I use what?? I was so confused and worried about the strategy going forward.
Apart from the various communication tools available (Yammer, Skype etc.) I was also concerned about what happens when you create a Team. Yes. I’m a control freak.
See, Teams creates a Site Collection in the background every time one is created – and that just stopped me dead in my tracks. Yes I was one of those ‘hierarchical sub-site crazies’. Couldn’t get my head around this at first – it took some time, and now after the announcement of SharePoint Hub sites, I’ve stopped taking my crazy pills 🙂
Mentioned in my previous post, Why Teams is the User Adoption Catalyst, Teams brings together Apps & Services which makes it much easier to introduce the new technology to users. I could easily include Teams / Skype / OneDrive / SharePoint / Planner and OneNote in the same training and it makes sense to users.
A Team also creates an Office 365 Group in the background which allows for focused emails in Outlook, a shared calendar and a distribution group. Pretty awesome if you ask me.
Microsoft Teams is now also available for external use (only users who have an email address corresponding to an Azure Active Directory or Office 365 work or school account can be added as a guest user). This works really great as we can now communicate and collaborate better with contractors, suppliers and communities.

Purpose of this blog challenge:
I will write 365 blogs in 365 days around Microsoft 365. I did a similar challenge with Office 365, blogs can be found here. I won’t just be talking about the new Microsoft 365 subscription model. I will be sharing any news, tips and tricks around Office / Office 365 / Windows / Mobility and Security. And let’s not forget all the great new Apps & services available. A lot of what I’ll share on Office and SharePoint will also be applicable to none “Office 365” versions.
