Events

The Events web part allows you to add and display upcoming events on your page. You can even include a map with location, online meeting information, and more. Use the Events web part.

Take note that these web parts are not available yet for use on classic pages. On how to create pages and add web parts, see SharePoint Pages and Web Parts Introduction.

When building sites with the Communication Site templates, the Events App is built by default and the Web Part is added to the home page. Here’s how you would add and configure it.

Adding the Events Web Part:

Put your page in to edit mode and click on the “+” to add a new web part. Choose the Events. If you have more than one Calendar App on your site, you can choose which one to display (1), Select to filter the category (2), and choose how to display your data (3). The category is a pretty cool way to filter data, for example if you add training as a category, then you can use the same calendar and on specific pages on show Training related events.

Here’s the web part:

Add to my calendar

Another great feature is the ability to add the events to your personal calendar. Click on the “Add to my Calendar” link below the event, an .ICS file will download (most probably showing at the bottom of your browser or in your downloads folder), click on file, choose Outlook to open. The event will open and allow you to save it.

Purpose of this blog challenge:  I will write 365 blogs in 365 days around Microsoft 365. I did a similar challenge with Office 365, blogs can be found here. I won’t just be talking about the new Microsoft 365 subscription model. I will be sharing any news, tips and tricks around Office / Office 365 / Windows / Mobility and Security. And let’s not forget all the great new Apps & services available.  A lot of what I’ll share on Office and SharePoint will also be applicable to none “Office 365” versions.
