#Office365Challenge First in a couple of blogs about the web parts in SharePoint. Let’s start with the basics – web part pages:

Day: 186 of 365, 179 left
Tools: SharePoint
Description: Web Part Pages in SharePoint

Web part pages are one of the page types in SharePoint that can be used to create pages. Of course you can add web parts on any of others – but in my experience web part pages “behave” better when to comes to alignment of web parts etc.

I’m no designer when it comes to pages and my knowledge around CSS & HTML should be considered “dangerous” to say the least. I do what I can, with the knowledge I have, using the tools available. Passion does go a long way though, and as I always quote “With Sufficient Thrust, Pigs Fly Just Fine” – so let’s do this.

First step is to create a new web part page in SharePoint. Go to your Site Pages library, click on Files Tab > New Document and select Web Part Page:

Give the page a name and choose the layout:

“Select a layout template to arrange Web Parts in zones on the page. Multiple Web Parts can be added to each zone. Specific zones allow Web Parts to be stacked in a horizontal or vertical direction, which is illustrated by differently colored Web Parts. If you do not add a Web Part to a zone, the zone collapses (unless it has a fixed width) and the other zones expand to fill unused space when you browse the Web Part Page. “

Web Part pages look completely different as it has ‘zones’ where you click to add the web parts:

When you click to add a web part, you will  notice the same options as on other pages:

For now I’ll cancel and save the page. Tomorrow I’ll start covering the different web parts with you.

Overview of my challenge: As an absolute lover of all things Microsoft, I’ve decided to undertake the challenge, of writing a blog every single day, for the next 365 days. Crazy, I know. And I’ll try my best, but if I cannot find something good to say about Office 365 and the Tools it includes for 365 days, I’m changing my profession. So let’s write this epic tale of “Around the Office in 365 Days”. My ode to Microsoft Office 365.

Keep in mind that these tips and tricks do not only apply to Office 365 – but where applicable, to the overall Microsoft Office Suite and SharePoint.
