ATOI365D#Office365Challenge So folders are less evil than I thought a couple of years ago. There is a time and place for everything, however in some libraries you might be utilizing meta data and would like to disable the ability to create folders. Here’s a quick one to show you how

Day:  348 of 365, 17 left
Tools:  Office 365, SharePoint
Description: Disable Folder Creation in SharePoint Document Libraries
Audience:  Power Users, Admins

What does Microsoft say?  Specify whether the “New Folder” command is available. Changing this setting does not affect existing folders (from Library Settings page).

How to disable folder creation:

  • Navigate to the library settings
  • Click on Advanced Settings

Scroll down to Folders. Select “No”, click OK to Save.

The image on the right shows the ability to create folders, on the left you’ll see the function removed:

Overview of my challenge: As an absolute lover of all things Microsoft, I’ve decided to undertake the challenge, of writing a blog every single day, for the 365 days. Crazy, I know. And I’ll try my best, but if I cannot find something good to say about Office 365 and the Tools it includes for 365 days, I’m changing my profession. So let’s write this epic tale of “Around the Office in 365 Days”. My ode to Microsoft Office 365.
Keep in mind that these tips and tricks do not only apply to Office 365 – but where applicable, to the overall Microsoft Office Suite and SharePoint.
