#Office365Challenge So folders are less evil than I thought a couple of years ago. There is a time and place for everything, however in some libraries you might be utilizing meta data and would like to disable the ability to create folders. Here’s a quick one to show you how

Description: Disable Folder Creation in SharePoint Document Libraries
Audience: Power Users, Admins
What does Microsoft say? Specify whether the “New Folder” command is available. Changing this setting does not affect existing folders (from Library Settings page).
How to disable folder creation:
- Navigate to the library settings
- Click on Advanced Settings
Scroll down to Folders. Select “No”, click OK to Save.
The image on the right shows the ability to create folders, on the left you’ll see the function removed:
Understand the business need before disabling folders. Just because SharePoint is great with meta data and views, doesn’t mean folders don’t have a place.
