#Microsoft365 #Office365 #SharePoint It really doesn’t have to be that difficult. Today I’ll show you how to drag multiple documents into groups to update metadata. You will need an existing grouped view to achieve this, so keep this in mind when planning your views.

As much as I LOVE SharePoint – updating metadata is a painful task. Still I prefer metadata to folders when dealing with acceptable numbers of documents (when I start uploading 1000’s of documents a day – folders is what I use).

In the Modern Libraries (new look without the ribbon), Microsoft is changing the way we work with metadata and views.

Previously I’ve showed you how easy it is to now create views without going to Library Settings. Now that we’ve created a grouped view, I would like to show you how to use that – to update metadata.

In my example below I’ve selected (1) two documents (currently on the Green RAG Status), I then drag them into the Amber grouping (2). You will notice the message that confirms Files to RAG Status Amber (3). The metadata on these documents will automatically update to the new grouping.

Of course this does not only apply to changing the metadata on a library, but also to update metadata on documents you’ve just dragged in there.

You have to be on the grouped view to achieve this:

Wow!!! That’s super cool. I wish this was around when I rebuilt our company intranet from scratch.

Purpose of this blog challenge:  I will write 365 blogs in 365 days around Microsoft 365. I did a similar challenge with Office 365, blogs can be found here. I won’t just be talking about the new Microsoft 365 subscription model. I will be sharing any news, tips and tricks around Office / Office 365 / Windows / Mobility and Security. And let’s not forget all the great new Apps & services available.  A lot of what I’ll share on Office and SharePoint will also be applicable to none “Office 365” versions.
